I work with adults of all ages who are experiencing feelings of anxiety, depression, lack of self-worth, loss, shame, guilt and loneliness. I can support you as you make changes to how you live, and work towards healthier ways to manage your emotions. I offer webcam counselling to people in the UK and throughout the world (subject to the regulations of the jurisdiction where counselling is being received), and face-to-face counselling in Harpenden.
About me and my practice
I have offered counselling to adults of a wide range of ages, backgrounds and sexual orientation. Whatever is going on for you, I can promise that I will listen to you with respect and kindness.
I offer regular weekly sessions where we will talk about what life is like for you, what might have led to these difficulties, what aspects of it you would like to change, and how you can make that change.
We may go beyond talking, tuning in to the wisdom of our bodies, which are affected by our emotions think of the fight or flight response when we are afraid. Our bodies give us information about whether an experience is good or bad for us think of our gut feelings about a situation or a person. Our body may hold a memory of past experiences which have made us feel that we are in danger.
I may therefore invite you to tune in to your bodily reactions do your hands want to make fists? What is your gut telling you? so that we can use that information. I may also invite you to try simple body-based exercises which can move us through our emotions, rather than getting stuck in them, and release traces of old hurts held in the body. This is known as Energy Psychotherapy.
I work in the UK and worldwide (where regulations permit) by webcam and can also offer telephone counselling. I offer face-to-face counselling in Harpenden, as well as walk and talk therapy in the Harpenden area.
I have been unemployed, worked as a secretary, worked with languages in an international trade union organisation, practised as a solicitor in a London commercial law firm, and as a legal aid family solicitor in a small town. I have raised a family, now adults. I have had the experience of being an outsider while living abroad, and an unremarkable person in the UK. I loved contact with people in all of these walks of life.
Difficult life experiences led me to counselling as a client, and the healing I found there inspired my wish to work as a counsellor.
Experience
I started my private practice in 2019.
This practice, and my experience as a volunteer at an agency offering free, open ended counselling to adults living in Hertfordshire, have given me extensive experience in working with adults of all ages, and a number of sexual orientations and nationalities.

Initial Consultation
It is important that we both have the feeling that we can work well together. As part of this, during our first session I may ask more questions than usual to get an understanding of your issues and needs, so that I can support you properly as you work towards living your best life. I hope that you will feel free to ask for an explanation about these questions if you wish, and any other questions you may have about therapy.
